I’m a natural hair newbie who usually sticks to using Shea Moisture Products, but this has become one of my all time favorites. It really defines my coils and doesn’t flake or leave a white residue on my hair. Some of the reviews are misleading regarding sodium hydroxide (lye). Most products we use contain sodium hydroxide (lye), however it’s the level of sodium hydroxide in the product that makes it harmful. This product has a low level of sodium hydroxide (lye) which is not damaging to natural hair. Research is important in understanding chemicals, damaging levels and/or amount and how they affect natural hair. This is an awesome product. Try and find out for yourself.

This gel not only worked well but it smells lovely and the texture is not sticky like usual hair gels are. I bought this for my 9 year okd daughter who has very dry cotton textured hair. I washed her hair then brushed and gently applied the gel throughout her hair before she went to bed and woke up like the pictures that I have attached. It gave her clean and tighter curls. I didn’t even need to rewet and work on her curls like I do for her every morning before school. I even caught my 15 year old daughter who thinks she is an expert using her little sister’s gel. I’m impressed because my 15 year old doesn’t put anything in her hair that has damaging chemicals. Her hair gel and crap costs well over $15 and this was so much more affordable. I’m going to buy more now.

I have been using Ms. Jackies Flaxseed Gel to define my curls for about 5 years. I spent so much money on other definers before I found this gel. It is VERY moisturizing and does not give you that dry hard curl that feels like it will break off if touched wrong. It dries clear, does not leave any residue and curls will last until your next wash -which is usually about 4-7 days for me. You can use a little or a lot depending on how defined you want your curls to be. I use about a handful but that’s my preference. I simply slather it on, root to ends, and then whip my head back and forth a few times and I’m done with my hair!! Wash-n-Gos used to take me so long to do and caused so much heartache when I first went natural I almost gave up! With this product, I am done in less than 2 minutes. I first apply a spray leave-in, then glycerin, and lastly Ms. Jackie’s Flaxseed Gel and voilà!! . I am definitely a lifetime customer!!

This product is one of many that I tried when deciding to go natural. I use it on my damp hair to define the curls. It does elongate when the hair is damp. However, as the curls dry there is some shrinkage but the curls stay very defined. It almost looked as though I was wearing a curly wig. Since it is a gel, it does what most gels do, which is to make the hair stay in place.

I’m going to keep it real! I have 4c hair that I big chopped a year ago in April! My hair has NEVER clumped while remaining defined UNTIL now! It was always a trade-off. I GE one or the other! Ecostyler was the only product that clumped my hair BUT never defined my roots! The struggles of natural hair! This product yall got me shoooook! It does it all! I use the Seal It Up and the Flaxseed gel together. On a fresh wash I rewet my hair with water and Aloe Vera juice (leave in), use the Seal it as a moisturizer, then follow with the gel. I diffuse if I’m limited on time and TRUST when I say my curls are locked and remain defined for 7 days! I re-moisturize every morning and I’m set! You’re welcome! Spend your coins on this line and you wont go wrong!

  6. CCW

I absolutely love this stuff! It makes my curls really bouncy, shiny, and healthy. It’s perfect for those who like the wash and go style. My hair still has some shrinkage, but not a whole lot (the photos show my hair when wet and dry). It’s really light and washes out easily. So glad I found it.

I am 4c Kenyan hair. Been natural for some years now. I’m now more confident knowing what I can do with my hair, what products I can use and mix up.I have never tried any sort of gel stuff, so this is my first time.I had washed my hair with ACV and shampoo. Then did KeraVada Caramel Soufflé Detangler Leave In Conditioner. Then KeraVada Creme Brûlée Hair Butter and I mixed that with Wild Growth Hair Oil. Clipped my ends. Then I did 2 strand twists and kept it like that, under my scarf for a full day. Then the next night (last night) I spritz water, combed thru and then applied the gel.Did the 2 strand twists again and covered it for the night. So this afternoon I wanted to see how it turned out. I only did the front because it was mostly dried. And this was the result.I do love the definition of my curls and they are soft, not greasy or stiff.I took pics, not greatest lighting. But I will be doing this again, update, with decent twists lol and way better lighting!

I have 4a hair. Before I begin my review I just wanna say this: hair products can’t alter your texture and make it “looser” or elongate it. There’s no way to loosen your hair pattern without damaging or weakening your hair or without using chemicals. A lot of type 4 girls flock to products like this thinking it’ll solve all their shrinkage and lack of defintion problems. Deep conditioning, trimming, moisturizing, and caring for your hair will help with the improvement of hair texture. Don’t let these types of products give you false hope and making you think you’re gonna get a whole different head of hair. Type 4 hair is the most shrinkage prone hair type, no product can change the very nature of it. Accept your hair for what it is.Now since that has been said.. I really like this gel. It gives me a lot of defintion when I do wash n go’s and braid/twist outs. It DOES elongate hair WHEN IT’S WET. But MY HAIR STILL SHRINKS (because that is the very nature of type 4 hair.) It smells good and is affordable. This will remain one of my fave gels for wash n go’s because of the non-crunchy defintion it gives me. No complaints whatsoever.

I have type 4B natural hair and I’ve been natural for almost 5 years now, so you can trust me when I say that I’ve tried just about every gel there is for African American hair!! ‘Eco Styler’ and ‘La Belle Lots of Curls’ gels usually give me nice TIGHT curls, but nothing like this gel. Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed gel gives me nice LOOSE curls. I’ve included some pictures, even though my camera does NOT do it justice.I’ve found that this gel does not work so great on wet hair for a wash ‘n go style, but it does work good on wet hair for twist outs. This gives me some of the best curl definition ever! It works best for me on dry hair after a twist out or braid out. I add a little oil moisturizer first, then I apply the gel. You don’t need much at all, which is a good thing. I scrunch it in my hair and I get luxurious loose, bouncy spiral curls! They’re really gorgeous in person. Please don’t expect for your hair NOT to shrink at all with this. My hair does still shrink a little, but nothing like before (without this product). So, it doesn’t totally stop it, but it prevents it by up to maybe 85 – 90% on MY hair. I’ve only been using this for about a week and have already received compliments on my hair. My husband says it makes my hair look fuller. It definitely does “it” for me and gets the job done. I’m going to be stocking up ASAP.

Like many reviewing here, I’ve used Eco Style and Curly Pudding for a few years as a natural, but I always had the “fuzzies”. I’d do a twist out or braid out and no matter what I did I could not get the definition I wanted. Until now! I never post multiple pictures of myself as is much the fad today, but I was so ecstatic with the results, I went FULL MILLENIAL with the photos. On my freshly shampooed hair

Dr. Woods Ideal Skin Care Pure Black Exfoliating Soap – 32 oz

     I applied the

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Detangler, 8oz

, then and I used about two tablespoons of the “Don’t Shrink”, section by section, for this wash and go. I let it air dry for several hours then “rubber banded” it in sections to the ends of the hair. When dry, I fluffed it out and then pinned it into the updo you see in the photos. In terms of the shrinkage, I couldn’t really detect any noticeable difference–I don’t think I really paid attention to the shrinkage, because I was so happy with the anti-frizz factor. SO with actions speaking louder than words, I give you my results with this product. Just amazing! Super affordable, compared to other leading brands. It has a great smell too!
